American Wild River Pearl and Pink Sapphire Necklace

Pearls are one of the most beloved gems, used for millennia in jewelry and decoration, and are the only gems grown inside a living organism. The first recorded mention of pearls is 7,500 years old.Sapphire is a gem-quality type of corundum, and is the third-hardest mineral in the world at a 9 on the Mohs scale, following moissanite at 9.25 and diamond at 10. This durability is what makes sapphire so great to use in jewelry. It is found in all colors, including red, which is called ruby, though blue is the most well-known color. Sapphires are commonly heat-treated for color enhancement. It is one of the four precious gems, with ruby, diamond and emerald. Some sapphires even have color-change.The American pearls I use are wild, natural river pearls from the mollusks in the rivers of Tennessee. They are very rare and come in a variety of shapes and sizes: wing-shaped, rosebud, triangles, coin, keshi, snail, free-form, and more. This necklace is made of a wing-shaped wild river pearl pendant between graduated pink faceted sapphire beads along with sterling silver beads. It measures a bit over 18" in length, with the pearl measuring 10 x 6 mm.For American pearl earrings to match, see my other listings. If you're interested in other wild river pearls for any type of jewelry piece, contact me to see what's available.Pearls are one of the birthstones of June, along with color-changing alexandrite, and moonstone. It is also the 3rd and 30th wedding anniversary gem.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PearlSapphire is the birthstone of September, and is a gemstone for representing the zodiacal sign Taurus. It has always symbolized truth, sincerity, and loyalty. No wonder it's a gemstone for the 45th and 65th wedding anniversaries!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SapphireInsurance and tracking is included in the shipping price for US addresses on account of the item's value, but if you'd like insurance/tracking on international shipping, please contact me first.
